A host of top CEOs and industry leaders will meet in Geneva for the 60th UITP World Congress & Mobility and City Transport Exhibition (May 26-30) to share ideas and debate future business models that will help the sustainable mobility sector move forwards.
i-MOVE 2.0, or the proposed future urban mobility business model, will mean a radical rethink of the sector's activities to increase both the quality of service and capacity faced with rapidly increasing demand. i-MOVE 2.0 will help to optimise healthier turnover by optimising customer yield but, at the same time, urban mobility must continue to offer affordable access to education, jobs and healthcare. Financing, therefore, is key.
"In order for urban mobility to be a lasting business, it needs to become more self-sustaining and reduce its dependency on public resources, while continuing to be affordable," commented UITP Secretary General, Alain Flausch. "This revolution requires careful organisation and the Congress will highlight the solutions to accomplish this objective."
Some of the leading thinkers debating this very topic in keynote speeches are Dr. Joan Clos, Executive Director of UN-HABITAT and Mrs. Doris Leuthard, the Swiss Minister of Transport. As a city councillor, Dr. Clos earned a reputation for municipal management and urban renewal projects and played a key role during the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Mrs. Leuthard is a former member of the Swiss National Council and a former President of the Swiss Confederation (2010).
